I have a Dell Inspiron 1720 Laptop, and a few weeks ago I cracked my screen and have just today have recieved a replacement 17" WUXGA screen.
I went through the hassle of doing everything in the service manual... I even went out to buy an eyeglass repair kit to get a very small screwdriver to undo a screw with a tiny grove on what I think was the inverter. So I replaced the panel and held my breath, and much to my delight it powered on, went passed the BIOS loaded Vista, and logged in. I went to bash in something into MSN, as soon as I hit the spacebar, the screen died. ![]() I powered the laptop off and powered it back on, and it turns on for about 3s, which is long enough to see the BIOS loading, and then turns off while the system continues to boot. What could be the problem? ![]() I am a tech savvy person, and build my own PC's, and I do feel I did everything properly. |

Re: Inspiron 1720 replaced screen, only powers on for a few seconds
Does the LCD show your desktop very faintly when you shine a bright light on it? That would indicate a dead or dying backlight and/or inverter. The latter is easy to replace, but the former is much tougher.

Re: Inspiron 1720 replaced screen, only powers on for a few seconds
Its ok now, the problem self rectified after I had charged the laptop fully, and the screen works perfectly!
I assume its probably something to do with the fact that I had removed all the screen components and one of them may have discharged while they were out (as a rough guess). |
