Hey, the problem is, as shown above, that my computer likes to freeze itself down without giving me a hint to find out why. It is like when I turn it on and every program has started up and I maybe open the Internet up it runs smoothly as it shall, but after a small five-ten minutes it begins, without prompting, to freeze. Then it stays like that for about two minutes and I can then use it again as before, but about a minute later it does exactly the same procedure once again and just continues into eternity.
![]() It does not help to shut the Internet down and stay with the other programs; I can go to Photoshop and edit pictures but here it does the same thing and actually every part of the computer seems to do this. It's like if I had some sort of time limit on about ten minutes and then I would have to restart the machine to reset the time. So I do not think that the Internet is the problem (I have tried both Internet Explorer and Google Chrome besides Firefox with no differences). For my attempts to find a solution I have formatted, I run a daily defragmentation with WinOptimizer, I run CCleaner at start-up and frequently after deleting files or exiting Internet browsers and I compress all of the computer's files to increase space. The computer's task manager does not show any sort of stress. The CPU only shows some 30 %, never higher than that unless I'm installing some program, but it never seems to be streesed when freezing. I have Bullguard antivirus and run daily virus scans and does never find anything but infected cookies which it easily deletes. My computer is running Windows Vista 64-bit Home Premium, has 4 Gb. RAM, about 80 Gb. free HDD space and, as mentioned above it never seems to miss out on processor powers. Only thing I can think of that might be a source of the problem could be the heat of the machine. It often gets so hot that I can't even have it on my legs, but I don't know how to cool it down other than buying some sort of external fan. Because it is a laptop I don't think it can have another fan installed very easily. I hope this was enough information, if not I'll happily supply more. I hope somebody can help me out with this one because it really makes it a pain for me to take notes when in school and basically just using it.

Re: Laptop freezes unstoppably : /
Looks like overheating. Try SpeedFan or NHC or something to show you the temps. Observe how high they get before the system crashes.
Check the vents and heatsink for any obstruction. Also use a can of compressed air or a compressor to blow out the dust or pet hair that may have been sucked in. Best if you can open it up and clean the insides.

Re: Laptop freezes unstoppably : /
Are you sure that this is the thing? Because when I first got it, it didn't freeze or anything but it still got as hot as it does now. Dust could of course be a problem. It often makes some scratching noise when I am in dusty places so maybe too much dust can have damaged it?
At least I'll give it a try :) Thanks for the help :) |

Re: Laptop freezes unstoppably : /
You hear a scratchy sound? Coming from what part? Check if it is coming from the fan or the hard drive or CD/DVD drive. Run an HDD diagnostic if it is coming from the hard drive.

Re: Laptop freezes unstoppably : /
It comes from the fan. And only when in dusty places. I have run multiple diagnostics already including HDD and it has no problems. The noise always comes from the fan and nowhere else.

Re: Laptop freezes unstoppably : /
If it comes from the fan may be a worn out bearing. I suggest you try replacing the fan assembly.

Re: Laptop freezes unstoppably : /
Bring it to a repair shop... they know what to do or how to open it up.
