Confused Toshiba portege M700 won't start

Hi,
I have been using a very new Toshiba portege M700-S7044V laptop (on loan through my job) for the past couple of weeks and I am now unable to turn it on! The laptop power button worked this AM briefly (in that many of the little start lights appeared and I was able to open the CD drive) and made some whirring noises but an image never appeared on the screen. I thought maybe the battery was low so I plugged it in and then found that I couldn't
get it to do much except blink. In the lower left rim of the keyboard side of the laptop, there's a little light is blinking indicating something related to the plug I guess (it has a little plug icon below it). I have checked to be sure all parts are connected and that the outlet works. This laptop is lovely but it seems to be extremely sensitive and has consistently had a lot of "internal error" moments which are followed by shutting down of a given application...prettyfrustrating!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,
Donna

Can you still open and close the CD drive? Have you attached an external monitor to the laptop and sent output to it? It is possible the laptop is booting up fine, but the LCD has failed.

Re: Toshiba portege M700 won't start

Thank you very much for your suggestion. Unfortunately, the CD drive is not working now. I don't know if it's because the battery has run down and the plug is somehow not connecting properly to the outlet or to the laptop. The laptop is new so hopefully, the warranty will cover this!
Thanks again,
Donna

If no part of the laptop is receiving power, then it is likely the adaptor is faulty or its connection to the laptop has somehow failed. Good luck getting it fixed under warranty.
