mbr problem..maybe?

Hello,
i have an acer travelmate c100. i love the thing and can't afford anything better.
so, the external cd rom firewire connection doesn't work so i am unable to load ANYTHING..including the restore cd's. how can i load the reinstall disc's on the harddrive. someone suggested i disconnect my desktop hd and then simply connect the laptop hd up and load the discs that way.

would that work?

it's alot of work for me to go to for something that may or may not work.

i THINK the main issue is the MBR on the hd is fubar. how can i fix this? would the previous disc switch do that?
thanks all!

Re: mbr problem..maybe?

sadly, no. in the bio's it offers , cd rom, hd & floppy. i have one of teh firewire dvd rom drives that came with this machine. i can only assume that 2 usb port &firewire combo part is fubar'd somehow. it will not recognize the dvd rom. thats why i am having so many fits with it.
