DELL Inspiron 6000 Power Problem

Lately I have been having prolems with my Inspiron 6000 power. It periodically switches between battery and AC while still plugged in. It happens with both of my AC adaptors. I was wondering if there is any thing that can be done to fix this or is my power supply going bad?

Are the adapters genuine and are for that specific model of laptop? If not check the power requirement of your laptop and compare to power output of the adapters.

Re: DELL Inspiron 6000 Power Problem

Yes they are genuine. The one came with it, and I purchased the other one directly from Dell. They charge the battery fine. I tried to run the computer without the battery in, just to see what happened, and it turned on, but then it tried to switch to battery and shut off.

Re: DELL Inspiron 6000 Power Problem

Do you have a good battery? If you do, just try to run on battery alone (AC adapter unplugged) and see if it shuts off.

If you know how, check the DC connection of the laptop... AFAIK you would need to open the laptop to have access to it on the mobo.

Just to rule out any possibilities, test your adapters on a similar laptop, although the likelihood of having 2 defective genuine adapters is slim.

Re: DELL Inspiron 6000 Power Problem

I've had no problems on battery alone.

That is a good sign... it could the adapter jack or the dc connection.

How would I check the dc connection or the jack?

Re: DELL Inspiron 6000 Power Problem

You need a multimeter measure the output voltage of the adapter... if you have not fixed/opened up a laptop before, I suggest you have a repair shop check the DC connection for you.
