New Laptop required, going away to uni
Hi everyone!! Recently my trusty (if outdated) HP desktop packed in entirely so time for a replacement!! As i will be heading off to uni after summer i think a laptop is probably the best route for me and was hoping that some expert input from you guys might make sure I am pointed in the right direction
![]() Budget: £1000 Screen: 15.4" (?) Brands: no personal bias, just want the best i can get really Mobility: May have to move it around a bit at uni but i doubt it will be too much, and im not going to complain about lugging an extra kilo or 2 for a good machine. As to battery life 2-3 hours would probably suffice, not necessary though. Durability: I tend to look after my things pretty well, but flimsy is not a word i would like to associate with my laptop. Multitasking: most likely msn, internet, word, excel, music running at once, doubt there will be much more multi tasking. Gaming: Not a hard core gamer but i would like to be able to play the latest games at a decent frame rate, even if its not at max settings. Reasonable future proofing is obviously desirable. Calculations: doubt it... Storage: Doubt i will need more than 250GB, would take a faster HDD over larger capacity Optical Media: possibly, nothing industrial though Operating System: would like to have a slick Vista system (perhaps 64-bit )Location: Scotland ![]() my preliminary research had highlighted the rock pegasus 520 (http://www.rockdirect.com/viewNotebo...=PEGASUS%20520), but i would love to hear any alternative suggestions or advice if possible. Thanks in advance |

Re: New Laptop required, going away to uni
Your requirements are not very rigorous and your budget is high enough. Anything you buy in that price range will serve your needs pretty well. Many mainstream vendors do not ship out laptops with 64-bit OSes installed, so you might have to shop around for one that will. Otherwise, just read reviews online and pick whichever you like.
