Disabling the (synaptics?)touchpad mouse and buttons
Hello all,
after 5 years of playing point and click games on my laptop, it seems that my left click button has finally given up. It's been sticking down for a while now(although I haven't actually used this machine for a few months) but last night it was permanently stuck down, meaning that I couldn't use left click. Even when I plugged in an external mouse, that couldn't use left click(but could point and right click) as the laptop mouse(synaptics mouse?) was already giving the left click command(I think). As I was registering on these forums the left click suddenly worked(you need it to check boxes such as agreeing to terms and conditions, unless someone knows another way) so I am now using my external mouse. So long as I never use the left click on the laptop, I should be able to continue like this. But it's natural to use it and I'm sure I'll forget, so I'd like to permanently disable that button or the entire mouse.(If I can't do that I suppose I'll just have to tape it up) I've tried uninstalling the driver to the synaptics mouse but it's still working. I'm geussing this is a fairly common problem amongst laptops(if anyone uses the same one for as long as I have) so there should be an answer out there for me. I've certainly learnt my lesson, the next time I buy a laptop I'm using an external mouse from the start, they're easily replaceable and don't cause your entire machine to be practically useless due to a small physical fault. Thanks for any help you can offer. ~Quevin |

Re: Disabling the (synaptics?)touchpad mouse and buttons
Bring up the mouse properties from control panel and remove the check mark from "enable touchpad". That should disable it. Some computers also have settings that automatically disable the touchpad when they detect an external mouse.
