How can I figure out...

I have a Dell XPS 1330 Laptop, How can I figure out what mother board I have? I took it to a computer repair shop to have them fix my computer after a drop, and they said that both the mother board and the hard drive need to be replaced. The computer no longer turns on so I can't run any software on it. Do I have to take it apart to find out? And will there be a sticker on it to say what type of mother board it has?

Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance - Andrew

Also, how difficult would it be for me to do this task?

Re: How can I figure out...

How old is it? I've heard lot of complaints about these Laptops. Apparently the graphics cards on them overheat and fry the motherboard. Dell knows about the problem and will fix it, if it's still under warranty.

Re: How can I figure out...

the computer is just over a year old, but it was damaged due to a drop, and the drop warranty had just expired so I would have to pay out the butt for dell to make the repairs, or an estimated $300-$500 to get it repaired by a computer repair shop.

I am doing to research now to see if I can learn how to make the repairs myself and save the money, I am in Korea so I know I can get the parts for really inexpensive. I just need to figure out what mother board I have, so I can see how much a new one would cost me.

Okay, I figured out that I need to get a GM848 motherboard, thank God I am in Korea, I should be able to find one fairly inexpensive!
