Laptop will not power on
I recently disassembled a 4 year old pavilion (don't have model number handy) to clean out the fan. Nothing hard at all I've had pavilions apart before. However once I reassembled the computer it wouldn't turn on. I have the light on the front that indicates power is getting to the computer but when the power button is pressed nothing happens at all. It doesn't even pretend that it is trying. I've also tried using only AC but same thing happens. Components that were removed during disassembly: battery, hard drive, keyboard, mouse pad wire, and of course fan assembly.
Does anyone know if any of these things could cause this to happen if they aren't connected properly, though I am sure they are. Or any ideas of things I should check. I'm pulling my hair out over this one because I can't figure out what I am missing. |

Re: Laptop will not power on
Thank you, I am at the office now but as soon as I get home those will be the first things I recheck. Would these things cause the laptop to not turn on though?
By the way I have to give you props on your avatar! |

Re: Laptop will not power on
Does your pavilion have a separate plastic strip that has the power button on it (I mean separate from the keyboard)? If yes, may be you might want to check on that too.

Re: Laptop will not power on
Latest update. I opened the laptop back up and checked that every cable is connected securly, and yes that the plastic cover that has the power button was securly fatened as well, yes it does make contact when pressed. Now however no lights on the front of the computer to indicate that it is getting power at all. I am starting to believe that the power supply has gone bad and all of this is just unfortunate timing, though if anyone has any other sugeestions I am open.
To check the power supply I assume I just use a multimeter and check the output on the cable section between the laptop and the power supply box. This is something I've never done before but I again am assuming I plug everything in and puncture the cord with the meter prong and check the readings with the specs on the back of the power supply. Though a confirmation from someone would be helpful. |

Re: Laptop will not power on
I think it would depend on how the output plug looks like. I think it is not a good idea that you puncture the wires, you could measure on the output plug using a multimeter. If the multimeter probes are too big, I use a metal paper clip attached to the ends of the probe.
