stuck at WELCOME screen
HP Compaq Persario V5201 US....My computer is stuck at the "Welcome" Screen--will not move. please help

Run HDD diagnostics first to check your HDD for hardware errors (use Hitachi Driver Fitness test or something similar -- see d/load link on my sig. ) Once HDD completes test without errors, run CHKDSK /R (recovery console of XP install CD.
