Question shut down during game play

Hi, have a NEC Versa M540
it can run for hours with internet usage, word etc.
as soon as you start a game (i was even playin dos version SimCity!)
it shuts down.
just switches itself off.
you can then start it up again and all is well but it just wont run any games at all.
does anyone know what the problem is?
Is this a hardware problem i can fix myself? would i be able to buy the parts and replace them in the laptop quite easily?
is there a sofwear solution?
Any help is much much appreciated.

Re: shut down during game play

How long into the game does the laptop shut off? Try to check for temp readings. You can use SpeedFan or NHC or something similar.

Re: shut down during game play

Hi again, have been checking temps with speedfan, i am unable to see any fans/fan speeds only one temperature.
The lap top shuts down after different amounts of time into playing a game.
checking the tempuratures it can shut down when the temperature is in the high 30 low 40 deg celcius. it is currently at 45 deg and running fine!
really appreciating the help.

Re: shut down during game play

I asked for you to install SpeedFan so you will have an idea of the temps... not necessarily to control the fan sorry about that. Ok going back... Play the game while you run SpeedFan... temps will rise obviously... wait until it shuts off.

Some things to do if is temp related:
1. Clean the vents/heatsink. Use air compressor or can of compressed air.
2. Laptop should be on a hard flat surface like a desk while in use.
3. Vent/heatsink areas should be free from any obstruction and if possible at least a quarter of an inch from desk surface.
