Computer Reboots Indefinitely
Description of the Problem:
When I reboot the computer, it will turn itself off, wait a moment (as all computers do), and then turn itself back on, but there is no image on the screen. It then shuts itself down, and reboots again, with no image on the screen, and the computer does this same cycle repeatedly. I have to shut it down manually, wait a couple seconds, reboot, and hope that I see the Windows Logo come on the screen, and this usually means it will boot all the way into Windows. Another thing to note is that the booting takes a long time, sometimes up to 30 minutes. I have no idea if this is a hardware issue or a software issue. The problem has been occurring since this past summer, but has only gotten worse recently. There was no new software that had been installed at that time prior to the issues. Additionally, the laptop was dropped, and the case was cracked (i know, stupid), but that preceded the rebooting problem probably about 6 months before it started occurring. The system overall is a bit slower than it used to be. Virus scans were run with the following programs: AntiVir PE Classic, AVG Free 8.0, Malwarebytes, CCleaner, Spybot Search & Destory, HijackThis, Ad-aware, Eusing Free Registry Cleaner. I ran them all about 3 weeks ago and don't remember offhand what they found, but it was nothing major, mostly cookies, and maybe one infected file that was removed. I will rerun them again to see if anything else shows up (especially that infected file). After I ran Belarc, I noticed that there are some important and a few critical microsoft security hotfixes that I will install, although I'm not entirely sure this will fix the issue. If there is any other information that I can provide, please let me know and I'll post it. Thanks in advance! System Specs: System Model: Hewlett-Packard HP Pavilion dv6000 OS: Windows Vista Home Premium Processor: AMD Athlon 64 x2 Dual Core Processor TK-53 1.70 GHz RAM: 958 MB System Type: 32-bit Operating System Service Pack: Unknown. I checked System under control panels, but it's not listed there for some reason. I am in the process of installing some more Windows Updates, and it looks like it be just service pack 1, but I'll do more investigating. Main Circuit Board: Board: Quanta 30B7 65.28 Bus Clock: 200 megahertz BIOS: Hewlett-Packard F.37 05/31/2007 |
