BIOS reinstallation/installation

Hey guys I have a laptop that was given to me and the person told me that the laptop has to have the bios reinstalled. Can anyone give me directions or a link to a site that can show me how to reinstall or install or upgrade the bios. Thanks for the help.

Re: BIOS reinstallation/installation

Lappy bios are done via windows enviroment on most lappys, unlike desktop PC's you don't have options of recovery flashing.

Post the brand and mod #.

Re: BIOS reinstallation/installation

There might not be a bios problem, wait until you have the lappy in your possession then post if the unit boots.

Re: BIOS reinstallation/installation

Hey i got the lappy. can you (laptoper) or anyone else help me out with a few things. When I turn on the laptop it stays on the first screen, the one where it says the name brand of the computer in this case vaio, for a very long time. Is that a bios problem? If it is not how can I fix it?

Re: BIOS reinstallation/installation

Hey, the laptop works good but there is the problem that i said before. I have contacted the old owner and she said the repair man said you have to reinstall the bios and that would fix the problem, which is sometimes the computer does not start, so can any one tell me how to reinstall the bios or tell me a website that shows me how to reinstall the bios.

Re: BIOS reinstallation/installation

That does not sound like a BIOS problem to me . .but you should be able to find the BIOS on the Sony suppoort site along with instructions.

If you boot from a CD is the delay still there?

Re: BIOS reinstallation/installation

the brand is sony vaio model vgn-fs760w. I am getting a quote to see how much it is to fix it done by a computer store in my town but I hope they also can tell me what is wrong it is in the quote so I can come back here with a better detailed answer with what the problem is and if it is something that you guys can help me it would be great but if it is not than I will have to pay to get it fixed; if I have to pay I will still come back to say how the repair went. I will post what the quote tells me tomorrow as soon as I get the laptop back.

Re: BIOS reinstallation/installation

Bummer . . unless you can find a motherboard for that specific laptop, it wouild cost more to fix it than to replace it

Re: BIOS reinstallation/installation

yea it sucks. Can you still tell me how to reinstall the bios because the person who I bought the computer from said that the tech who she had look at said it was just a bios problem that could be fixed if the bios was reinstalled; so I want to try to reinstall the bios because who knows that might work and there is nothing wrong with trying you know.
