Re: 0x0000007b?????

Hi,
Are you trying to dual boot Vista and XP or just install XP?
What are your BIOS settings set at (default).
If you have the option, set the Harddrive to IDE mode or disable AHCI mode.

It sound to me you have the BIOS configured incorrectly and when you install XP it is looking for the SATA driver.
Seeing Vista installs without issue (it contains Sata drivers, XP does not), this is a good indication.

This may help you:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport...ctID=c00758841

You cannot install XP on another computer and then connect this drive to a different computer. XP will not configure the correct drivers.

Did this computer originally come with Vista?

Thanks,
Bill

Re: 0x0000007b?????

Hi,
This is strange seeing XP came with this computer.

Lets try this.
Lets Slipstream XP SP2 (recommended) and the SATA Drivers to a "NEW" CD.
Here is how:
http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windo...-installation/

Sata Drivers:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport...tem=ob-39831-1

You will have to EXTRACT this driver to a folder and Slipstream it to your Custom XP SP2
CD.

Let me know how you make out.

Thanks,
Bill

Re: 0x0000007b?????

Try to extract the sata file to a floppy disc.
Use the external Floppy drive and press F6 during install process and see if it will pickup the Sata Driver.
If it does you may not need to Slipstream the XP install.

Re: 0x0000007b?????

Are you Unzipping (Extracting) these files to a folder and Slipstreamming the folder to CD?
Or are you just putting what you downloaded and putting it on a CD.
I do not know what the issue is?
Can you post what the files are that you are putting on the CD?
Is it what you downloaded or is it what you Extracted (Unzipped) to a folder?

Re: 0x0000007b?????

the file that i've downloaded i've extracted the files inside it to a floppy disc first when it didn't work i've extracted those files to a folder named drivers and i've added them using nlite following geek instructions
i did'nt move or copy and paste the folder to the cd
i just followed the instruction i know it's confusing but dats what's happening but let me tell you how i started to get that blue screen when i first bought the laptop it came with windows xp never had issues installing xp then later i installed partition magic 8 coz i had drive c only so i wanted to make it 2 drive c and d d for saving important files then i must done something wrong and it asked to restart the computer and after restarting it came up with error no windows system hard disk something like that .....
since that time i got the blue screen so i took it to a computer engineer 2 days he called me back to go and take it and to find out that he installed win xp on my notebook i asked him what he done he said to me that he took out the hard drive connect it to another pc installed the windows then put it back i did that but nothing
i'll try to post the files i extracted

Re: 0x0000007b?????

Hi,
The issue must be the external drives you are using.
XP is not picking up the sata drivers during the install.

Lets try this.
Set your BIOS to Default settings.
Use this Sata Driver:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport...5&mode=4&idx=1

Format the floppy disk using another computer BEFORE you extract these files to the floppy.

Follow these instructions:
Quote:
1. Download the SoftPaq .EXE file to a directory on your hard drive.
2. Execute the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions.

To use the diskette during a new operating system installation, complete the following steps:

NOTE: A diskette drive is required to use this driver. If an external diskette drive is used, ensure it is plugged into the system.

1. Insert the operating system CD and Power On the notebook to boot from the CD.
2. At the very beginning of the operating system installation, the following prompt is displayed at the bottom of the screen: "Press F6 if you need to install a SCSI or RAID driver...." When the prompt is displayed, press F6.
3. Later in the operating system installation, you are notified that a mass storage device could not be detected. When this notification occurs, press S (S=Specify Additional Device).
4. When prompted, insert the diskette that was created from the SoftPaq file, and then press Enter.
5. Select Intel 82801GBM SATA AHCI Controller (Mobile ICH7M) and press Enter.

NOTE: At this point, the following prompt MAY be displayed, depending on the version of your operating system CD. If the prompt is displayed, press Enter to use the default Windows driver and continue, if it is not displayed, simply continue with Step 6. The prompt reads as follows:
Windows already has a driver that you can use for "Intel (R) 82801GBM SATA AHCI controller (Mobile ICH7M)". Unless the device manufacturer prefers that you use the driver on the floppy disk, you should use the driver in Windows. S=use the driver on floppy ENTER=use the default Windows driver.
6. Continue with the operating system installation, as prompted.
Let me know how you make out.
Bill

Re: 0x0000007b?????

Hi,
Are you leaving the Floppy disc in the drive for this whole setup (you should).

I am not going to give up on this. The drivers and instructions I post (#12) are right from this model.

See if any of this will help:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/324103

Is there anything on this drive now (vista)?

If so I would use Kill disk to completely clean the drive. You will loose all info on this drive so be sure you backup any important Data:

Hi,
Boy this is strange.
I must be missing something here.
I am going to call in for backup.

In the meantime run the Harddrive Diagnostic Utility from your Harddrive Manufacture:
http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=287#maxtor

Also run Memtest86+ to test your memory. A link is under my signature.

Thanks,
Bill

HI,
I am still not giving up are you?
What XP OS is this 32bit or 64Bit?
When you get to doing the install (pressing F6) do you get the choice of the sata driver?
I am thinking you are.
Do you get to this prompt?
