Hi everybody.
Here I have Sony VAIO VGN-FZ240E with Vista home premium 32bit. It boots up normaly, then Vistas loading bar shows and I guess no problem there, but right after that when the screen has to change it becomes black. I am sure that i'ts not just black - i think monitor turns off. The hdd led indicates activity for a long time, in a random maner. No sound, pressing 'right' buttons on keyboard doesn't do anything.... Things I have tried to do 1) obviously Safe Mode :D it stops on crcdisk.sys after that black screen again... 2) Memtest86+ ran 3 passes, no errors, although i am trying again right now... 3) Vista (automatic) system recovery failed, information was useless... 4) Built in Sony's "Restore Drive C: to original state" goes normal, after first restart(right after revoery finishes) same black screen 5) Installerd Vista from a DVD (Retail) installation goes everything is normal after the restart same black screen 6) Tried deleting PCMCI and 1394 drivers in case there is some conflict with Vista but it is still the same black screen. 7) I booted Linux (Slax-KDE) from my flash drive, and everything works just perfect, except didn't try the Wifi cause didn't have the drivers... 8) Removed the battery and put it back after 10 minutes I don't get it. What the hell is wrong with it ? At least I need to know what is the problem exactly. If I have to disassemble it completely I'll do it, just please help me to find the problem here, I understand that most likely it is a some kind of hardware problem. Thanks and I am waiting for suggestions ![]() P.S. I plugged my monitor into VGA on laptop but it doesn't show anything I wonder why is that? Does it have to load drivers to start the second monitor? |

Re: Sony Laptop Black screen...
Hmmm.. try a Vista Startup Repair. Also before you do that run HDD diagnostic. D/load your HDD maker's diag tool from the link on my sig below... or you can use Hitachi Drive Fitness Test.
