Mistake dell 1525 black screen on startup

This may have been posted before but looking on the net it appears to be a big problem.
I have a DELL inspiron 1525 laptop.
This is what happened
This am on startup the dell insginia bar ran through and then...Black screen with curser and then zilch.
I tried 5 times to get it to run to windows startup without success.
Then I put in the recovery disk and it booted...I turned off. The problem returned until I again put the recovery disk in and it booted normally.
I cured the problem by restoring to a much earlier date and it rebooted OK.
However, reading other forums I have found this is a regular problem.
Does anyone have a REAL fix, as it seems that complete restore ends up at a later date with the same problem
My thanks.
Brian

Re: dell 1525 black screen on startup

If it works if you restore to a much later date then it could be something in your updates (i.e. Vista updates, software installations, etc).

On the other hand, have you tried doing Vista Startup Repair? Also if you have not done so yet, if it happens again, boot with a linux live CD (i.e. Knoppix or Ubuntu). If it can boot up the linux live CD without problems with the video then it could be your Vista installation or drivers are corrupt. Try to update video drivers and update Vista... may be it can help.

Re: dell 1525 black screen on startup

Hi Trigger,
Firstly, thanks for your reply, something new....last night I shut down and then attempted a restart....Blank screen again.....So I disconected ALL my usb connections (2 inputs from 2 X 7powered hubs) Booted fine?? So, it would appear that the boot problem stems from the USB connections/usb hardware. After boot up I can reconnect the USB and all runs well. A bit of a puzzle as I have used these connections ever since I have had this laptop without a problem....Maybe out there are folk who have had this problem and know the answer.
Cheers.
Brian
