Laptop Display Goes Dim

I have the exact same problem. Tried a new inverter but it hasn't fixed it.

I'm not going to bother fiddling with bulbs. Does and LCD screen come with an inverter? Or is it just the screen? Will buying a new screen fix the problem?

I did a quick research on your question... most of the screens for sale DOES NOT include the inverter and the cables. Obviously the LCD screen does include the backlight...

rbalaji.. I believe they are not included (inverter and cable) not even for a brand new one. If you know of a seller that includes these, please post in here a link their site so we have some info that might help other members. Thanks.

Re: Laptop Display Goes Dim

Thanks for the clarification, TriggerFinger. I can't find any replacement LCD seller's website that clearly says what is included and what is not. They all say their replacement screen is "easy to replace, just plug and play", or words to that effect. So, I assumed that it would come with all parts normally considered part of the LCD itself (such as the inverter) such that you could just unplug the old one from the mother board and plug the new one in. But as they say, assume just makes an *** of you and me. I apologize if I provided wrong information.

Re: Laptop Display Goes Dim

If i set it to the lowest possible brightness then the screen stays on without flickering. If i increase the brightness the screen will start to flicker and if i go too high it will go black. That can't be a problem with the cables can it? The screens not been on for a week so most likely it's the backlight and if i keep the screen on for a long period of time it will fail again?

I don't want to buy a new screen if that's not the problem. Already spent £25 on an inverter which has made no difference, so if it is the screens problem that money was wasted. I don't want to buy a new screen then find out it was a problem with the cables or loose connections (i've checked and they seem alright)

Going to have to take it to a repair shop.

Cheers for the help

Hi,

That was quite an expensive inverter there... was it brand new? If yes, where did you buy it from, may be you can still return it minus restocking fees and shipping...

Anyhow... yep, it can very expensive when it comes to LCD problems and screens and there is no way out of trial and error when it comes to backlights and inverters. That is why sometimes it is cheaper to have it fixed in a repair shop than DIY because shops have tools and spares that they can use without you having to buy each of them.

@rbalaji.. no problem my friend... I know and believe your intentions are good.

Laptop Display Goes Dim

It was new off ebay. I didn't have time this week to take it to a shop so thought i'd take a chance of the inverter being the problem and was willing to pay that for it to work. Now that it hasn't it was a big waste of money :D

What's a reasonable price for a new screen?

Also, i've had the screen off for a week now(was using an external monitor) and tried it today. It's working fine now but i've had to reduce the brightness. There's no flickering. If i increase the brightness it starts to flicker and turn off.

If the backlight is the problem then (why) would it be working on low brightness?

What's a reasonable price for a new screen? -- may be $100 to $200 depending on size and if it is new or not.

-- this I am not so sure about this but I suspect an LCD going bad.
