dell latitude c640 keyboard keys in and out win xp
I have a dell latitude c640 1.8 gig with a temporyary hard drive of 6 gig that is 200mb close to being full 512m ram
and my problem is that there are keys on the keyboard that sometimes wont respond for a minute but then come back when I first start the computer up(with in the first 5 minutes)the computer is fully started up but it seems the w s and x keys and sometimes others. one time recently I turned on my laptop without power cord and it heard a high pitch comeing from the computer (I thought it was comeing from maybee the hard drive area)I quickly turned it off plugged it into ac and have never had a problem since(a few days)(I have been useing this hard drive for some months and it works good as far as I know (with win xp on it) what could cause the keys to stop working for a couple minutes then be fine the rest of the time and is there a fix to this I have other keyboards for this computer off of simulare computers in the same c family if its a motherboard issue is there a way to fix the motherboard another thing is the time keeps resetting back 2 hours maybee a bad battery I dont know if that would be related thanks Last edited by nester9; 01-30-2009 at 10:55 AM. Re: dell latitude c640 keyboard keys in and out win xp
I tried a ps2 keyboard and it happend again with the w s and x but I was able to get it to work at that moment on the external ps2 keyboard if a usb keyboard is nessisary I do have one. what happens is it will rework after about 20-30 seconds and be fine after that entill I rehibrinate and come back on again. a funny thing is I press the w key and it appeared then the next time I pressed it disappeared
I do have another simular laptop I could exchange the keyboard with this one as far as the squeak I havent heard it since I hope some metal chip didnt get on the motherboard or something silly like that I havent opened the unit for quite some time another time the n and v and the space bar went blank for 20sec or so thanks |

hi nester,
this is oshoe. alrite. you have written, there is problem with ur keyboard. alrite.it will be wise you replace ur keyboard if the problem occurs again and again. if your RAM is good. like 2 GB. that wouldn't be cuz of RAM. because in some cases, due to the less RAM keyboard get delay.[/color] okay. About the date and time resetup, you have to change the motherboard battery, that is called CMOS battery. CMOS battery is finish so that why date and time is resetting everytime you reboot. okay. thats all. |

You can leave your old keyboard in but run a linux live CD (Ubuntu or Knoppix). If your keyboard behaves the same just like in Windows, I suggest you try removing the keyboard and with an external keyboard try if you still get the same problem.

Re: dell latitude c640 keyboard keys in and out win xp
I installed a differnet keyboard and mouse on the computer and that seemed to solve the problem I assume this means that the keyboard I took out is bad right?
thanks |

Yep.. it could be the keyboard if you have replaced the old one.
