No picture on Laptop
I have a HP 6000 series laptop. Recently, I turned it on and didn't get a picture on the screen. I connected the laptop to a TV, and everything displays fine on the TV. I'm wondering if there are buttons that I can press to reactivate the screen. My co-worker has a Gateway laptop, and is experiencing the same thing. I can't find a switch on either one. Please help!

Re: No picture on Laptop
the Fn key plus one of the other keys increases or decreases the brightness
if that does not bring it up shine a torch on the screen and see if you see anything

Re: No picture on Laptop
Laptop screens have no on/off switch. If you find that an external display works and the LCD does not, there is a problem with the LCD display. Most probably, it is a dead or dying inverter or backlight. It is a hardware problem and can only be fixed by replacing the dead part.

Re: No picture on Laptop
Before you jump into any conclusion, make sure you try to toggle from LCD to external monitor and back. Some laptops have Fn+F4 to do that... as for your model, check with your Users Manual. As dai has advised, try raising brightness and/or use a flashlight to see beyond the dark LCD. If you still see your Desktop beyond the dim/dark screen then it could be an inverter/backlight issue.

Re: No picture on Laptop
How does one adjust the backlight or inverter. I never adjusted the regular settings to begin with, so I don't know how to adjust it now. I email HP who said to take out the battery & unplug the power adaptor, then hold down the power button for 1 minute. I did that, and now the computer doesn't even turn on. When you press the power button, all the blue lights come on, the it makes a swoosh sound, and turns off like there's no power (this is while the computer is plugged into the power adaptor). The computer was plugged in all night, then I tried the above suggestions this morning.
