[SOLVED] Laptop powers off when Windows starts

Hello, I have a HP zv6000 laptop running XP SP2. As soon as it trys to start Windows (can see the Windows loading screen) the laptop shuts down completely. It also does this when I have in the XP cd and try to start from cd or reinstall windows, as soon as it says "starting Windows" it shuts down. I have tried 3 different (known good) motherboards, with 3 different HDs, and swapped ram. It does the same thing no matter what combination of hardware I have in. I changed the CPU a week ago, but it's was running with the new CPU in it. Bios say's CPU temp is ideling at 39 degrees celcius. Can the CPU be causing this?? It can stay on for hours, but once I try to start Windows it shuts off.

Thank you in advance for any advice.

Hmmm try changing the HDD. Put back the old motherboard and RAM but replace the HDD. If you want, run Hitachi Drive Fitness Test to test the HDD. Also try booting from CD/DVD using a bootable CD like BartpE XP or linux live CD... do this with HDD removed. If it works well without any HDD, then consider HDD replacement.

Re: Laptop powers off when Windows starts

Problem solved. Changed the CPU and it works with any combination of the components. Very weird cause I was able to install Linux without it shutting down but never Windows (tried 6 versions).
