Toshbia Battery Issue

Hey Everyone,

I have a Toshiba Satellite A350. The problem with it is it doesn't hold a charge for any longer than about an hour. All hardware tests pass. I have noticed that the battery icon is always red (even though the system is informing me that it is 75% and charging.) I have searched Toshiba's website as well as google to see if anyone knows what this means, and thus far have had no luck.

I know the charge system is working fine, so i am not about to replace a system board, but I need to know what the meaning of the constant red icon means; whether it indeed is the system board or the battery needs to be replaced.

Thanks for you help in advance. Let me know if you need more information.

Re: Toshbia Battery Issue

Most probably it means that one or more cells in the battery has failed and it is time to get the battery replaced. How old is it? Most laptop batteries last only about a year and a half to three years.

If you are not experiencing any other problem besides the battery issue, I'm almost certain that its a bad battery. Especially since you're saying that the battery doesn't hold a charge to good.

Is your Laptop the Toshiba Satellite A350-ST3601? How long ago did you get it? If it's still under warranty, then I recommend you talk to Toshiba.

Hi Rhade,

Replacing the battery may be is high time but have you tried your battery in another similar laptop?

You said your battery icon is red... that is probably in the Windows taskbar if I am not mistaken... there is a battery LED on the laptop itself, is it blinking (amber/green), amber or green?

The red light I am speaking about is on the laptop itself, not in windows. I haven't tired using another battery or taking this battery in another system.. I will attempt to do so.

It is a Toshiba Satelitte A350-01N (PSAL6C-01N015) and it is fairly new.

By fairly new, do you mean less than warranty expiration? If so, contact Toshiba; it should be covered under the warranty. Whether its the battery or the motherboard.
