Question Good laptop brands?

I'm currently looking for a new laptop because Dell's Studio 15 is obsolete. They sent me a malfunctioning laptop not just one time, but two times so I'm getting a refund today and I need some advise on what good laptop brands should I look at, I'm willing to pay up $850. I was looking at Toshiba and HP...Any other ideas? What are some good brands to consider?

All opinions would be great. Thanks to all.

Question Re: Good laptop brands?

The Lenovos seem to look more like business laptops...How is the Compaq Presario CQ60Z series?...

Re: Good laptop brands?

Looks good for a budget laptop priced at around $450 for basic config (see HP website).

Re: Good laptop brands?

I actually customized one that has the specs that I want...But I'll continue my search...I change my mind about lenovo, I went to their site and saw Lenovo IdeaPad Y530 - 405169U for $719. How is that one compared to the Dell Studio 15 in general, and compared to Compaq Presario CQ60Z?

Re: Good laptop brands?

I really just want a laptop that will let me surf the web, multitask, burn CDs and DVDs, basically I want a laptop for entertainment and media, I wont be editing or playing games on it though.

Re: Good laptop brands?

I love my hp which now is probably around 3yrs old, I bought it new off ebay. I'd say an hp/compaq dual core amd/intel around 2ghz with 2-3gb's of ram meets your needs. If it has vista installed anything nowadays does. And if you can find one with dedicated video memory that's better. I have the x600 128mb dedicated graphics card in mine.

Re: Good laptop brands?

So far I'm looking at Compaq Presario CQ607 series, the HP Pavilian dv6t series, and Lenovo IdeaPad Y530 series, which one of those three seem to be the better choice?

Re: Good laptop brands?

My two cents... search the forum/s and see which of these brands have most reported problems. Search some laptop reviews also on the brands and models you like and compare.

Agree %100 don't want a laptop with tons of issues right out of the box. Mine has only been sent in once for repair.

Re: Good laptop brands?

Yeah...My Dell Studio 15 had problems literally right out of the box twice. I thought Dell was a good company. But I'll be taking my time with finding a laptop, I just don't know a whole lot about computers.

That is why I go for what I recommend (see links in my previous post) because I see almost ZERO reported problems here in this forum (laptop support / hardware support). If there is one, perhaps it would be a very old model or a design flaw in a specific model that is very rare or something Windows related... unlike the others with AC adapter errors, GPU issues, design flaws and list goes ON affecting a wide range of models (see this and this.).
