Help, LCD video cable/connector
Hi, I'm trying to replace LCD due to the very dim screen. This is the first time I open the laptop. I followed the online instruction etc. and managed to put my new screen in then as I was trying to connect the video cable, I came to a trouble. It seems the connector is not quite compatible even though this screen is supposed to be 100% compatible. My laptop video cable has locking connector and it seems slightly wider. Is there any way I can still use this LCD by modifying or is there any sort of adapter? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Just one more question. Are locking connector standard or rare? I got the LCD from eBay, this seller had 99%+ reviews and everyone seemes to be satisfied with their screens. I'm wondering if got unlucky with rare kind of connector (Vaio FJ270)... Last edited by RayRayRay; 01-27-2009 at 01:34 AM. |

Re: Help, LCD video cable/connector
I cannot say anything on the compatibility but I know one thing that might help... get the part number of your original LCD. If it is different from the one you got from eBay then it is possible that the cables for the LCDs would be different. You can replace the cable too but your problem would be the connection on the motherboard side.
If you can still return or have the seller replace it with the exact replacement... the better for you.

Re: Help, LCD video cable/connector
Hi, thanks for your reply! My origianl screen was QD14TL02. I shouldn't have any compatibility problem if I get the same part number item, correct? I wrote to the seller and waiting for them to write back. They advertised the screen I got as FJ270 100% compatible and it was made by LG but they also have screen listed as QD14TL02. So I guess they sent me a wrong one.

Re: Help, LCD video cable/connector
I got a reply from the seller and they suggest to do the modification as below. What do you guys think? Is it safely done without damaging anything by non-tech person? Thanks!

Re: Help, LCD video cable/connector
I believe removing the clips are easy and if you are careful enough, it would not even be a danger to the cable. I just hope that removing the clips would already fix the problem... I am afraid that after removing the clips the cable would still not fit because it is wider or has more pins than what is required by the LCD.... visually check this out and be very sure that the cable would fit if the clips are removed.
There is a reason why there are clips there... yep, to lock the cable in place. If you remove it, you better find a way to secure that cable like taping it on the lid or something.
