How to get cable on a laptop?

There is a three year old Dell laptop in a dorm room wired for cable tv. What would be the best way to get the cable into the laptop? I've been looking at some stick type cable to USB adapters. I was wondering if this would be the best way to go or if there was a better way to do it. Also, if the coax to USB stick is the best way to go, what looks like the best device for the job? And remember, this is for a college student so cost effectiveness is important.

Re: How to get cable on a laptop?

Hi,

Can you explain a little bit what you are talking about when you say that your laptop is wired for cable. Does that mean that you have a tv-tuner card in your laptop? I am confused about that part.

Cheers!

Re: How to get cable on a laptop?

Sorry, maybe I wasn't clear enough. The room has cable run to it. The laptop does not have a tv tuner card. I'm looking for the best way to get cable on the laptop. I understand that there are external tv tuners that connect to USB. I have also seen little coax to USB converters the size of a memory stick. It needs to be inexpensive and perform well, obviously. When I said wired for cable, I was talking about the room.
