Re: format hard drive

To totally wipe the drive download the .iso and make a boot cd of killdisk. www.killdisk.com That'll put the drive into basically a factory state, no data or os left on it. If you don't know how to properly burn an image to make a bootable cd, let us know.

Re: format hard drive

have you gathered together all of your xp drivers before starting

you will need to set the bios to see the sata drive as ide,you may also need to load a driver with f6 for it to find the drive

Re: format hard drive

Most newer BIOS allow an Alternate method for SATA . . Go into the bios and check the "Sata Operation" setting, change it to "Raid Autodetect/ATA if it is not already. Now try to install XP ( Verbage will vary by manufacturer )

Re: format hard drive

Drivers are not the problem . . either the drive is mess up or the installation cd cannot be read by the cd drive. You can download and run diagnostics on the drive to rule out failure and try an original install cd to see if that is the problem.

Was it working ok with Vista? . . have you tried to reinstall Vista?

Was this laptop ever offered with XP?
