ntfs. file corrupt
Hi, I have tried to use the search menu due to the overwhelming traffic on here. However there was an error in searching.
I have a HP Pavilion dv 8000 - Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 Left my computer on one night a while back and it did not go to sleep. Next morning it was giving me the black screen with "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt : \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM You can attempt to ........original setup CD-ROM" So took the Operating System DVD: Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005. Placed in drive. turned off computer. waited 10 seconds. turned computer back on. and pressed key to boot. I then got the blue screen that says window Setup. Setup then proceeds to load files across bottom of screen. The process runs fine until. the file ntfs.sys is corrupted. press any key to continue When I press a key it says across the bottom setup failed Don't know where to go from here. Do you think I can get this working or am I going to have to pull my data files from hard drives to my desktop? further more is this possible? This is my first post and I see there are a lot of people that don't know compared to a few of you that do know. Appreciate your time. Thanks in advance. Re: ntfs. file corrupt
You are some what on the right track. You should boot with your Windows system disk and select the restore option. This should repair the system file that is corupted in your C:\windows\system32 folder. Or you could select Use Last Known Good Configuration, after pressing F8 key when you boot your computer. If you can not repair the corupted file or get your system back on track with the Last Know Good Configuration at bootup. Then you may have to reinstall your Windows operating system. Hope this helps you.
