Optical Drive Issues
Hey,
I have a TSSTcorp TS-L632D optical drive on my Asus computer and I have been having problems with it. It often goes back and forth between detected by the computer and undetected by the computer; however, it is not a filters problem because I have already checked that. Furthermore, I have only recently found myself unable to burn CDs: In Nero, the burn process completes successfully, but the verification process fails almost immediately. Should I buy a new drive, or is it a problem with my motherboard? Thanks. |

Re: Optical Drive Issues
check what the nero log lists as the problem with the burn
if the drives disappearing at times pull it out and put it back in it may be just a dirty contact

Re: Optical Drive Issues
I get a "read error at sector" error.
And what do you mean by "pull it out and put it back in" ? Are you saying that I should crack open my laptop and remove and reinsert the CD? EDIT: Nevermind, I was able to remove and reinsert the CD burner. Last edited by chironex; 01-14-2009 at 01:40 PM. |

Re: Optical Drive Issues
try removing filters
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929461 but a bad contact could have enough contact when not under load and not enough when it is under load

Re: Optical Drive Issues
As I have mentioned earlier, it isn't a filters problem.
Also: I doubt it is a bad contact (such as you have mentioned) because the drive is ALWAYS there on startup and disappears even when going completely unused. |

Re: Optical Drive Issues
do you have a 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 converter cable so you can connect it to a desktop and check if it is the drive itself
