Toshiba m35x-s329 won't turn on
Hi
I've had this laptop for about 5 years. It died last year, and the local repair guy didn't know what was wrong so I just bought another laptop. However I now have some spare time and wouldn't mind attempting to fiddle with it in order to get it working again. The problem I'm having is that it will not turn on. If i press the power button, the button lights up, and the led in the front lights up, and a fan turns on for about 3 seconds. But that's all the action i get. The cd drive will not open and the monitor does not turn on. I'm guessing it's the motherboard, in which case it's probably not worth replacing im guessing? But maybe it's not and perhaps there is something I can do? Thanks, Chris |

Re: Toshiba m35x-s329 won't turn on
First try take out the laptop battery and try turning on the laptop with the AC adapter plugged in to the laptop. I doubt that this process will work but it's worth the shot.
The problem could be the motherboard and laptop motherboards are pretty expensive to replace. Not worth specially if the laptop is 5yrs. Most likely the price of the motherboard is worth more than the 5yrs old laptop itself. |

Re: Toshiba m35x-s329 won't turn on
Hmmm without the battery in there the computer will not do anything. When I press the power button, it flashes blue and goes out. No fan this time and no light in the front.
I also wanted to say that yesterday the last time I tried to turn it on, it turned on like it has been (with the battery in) but then refused to turn off no matter how long I held down the power button. It normally goes into the forced shutdown or whatever you call it when you hold down the power button, but this time it would not do that. Thanks yeah I kind of figured, so I'm just holding out hope it's not the mobo. |

Re: Toshiba m35x-s329 won't turn on
I think I'm going to go ahead and take it apart, just to see what's going on inside.
Is there anything I can see that will tell me the mobo is dead, or is that more a guesswork sort of thing? |

Re: Toshiba m35x-s329 won't turn on
M35x's had quite a few problems, one of them being the motherboard. One of the big problems was a person could come into contact with it near the speakers and he shocked by static which in turn would normally kill the motherboard and cause the problem your describing.
There was a class action lawsuit about this which extended the warrantys on them up until july of 08. |
