Hi,

I work on a Sony Vaio laptop. It's about two years old and runs Windows XP. The only USB devices I've used to date have been a Logitech Plug&Play Mouse, an Epson printer and an iPod. The first is, and has always been, plugged into the top USB port. The printer and iPod I've always plugged into the second port. I have not, to my knowledge, used the third at any point.

I recently bought a Logitech keyboard because my g key has been on the fritz for about two months (which is really, really weird). Tried to install it, only to find that, despite being plug&play, it doesn't work. I did some sleuthing online and have tried a number of things.

First, I checked to see if my mouse was capable of being used in the second or third USB ports: No. It is accepted only in the first.

Second, I checked the Device Manager:

Under "Other Devices" there are currently 5 yellow question marks:
* Unknown Device
* Unknown Device
* Virtual Media Keys
* Wacom HID Digitizer
* Wacom HID Pen

Under "USB controllers" there are 10 things listed, no question marks and no exclamation marks:
* Intel(R) 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB Universal Host Controller - 27C8
* Intel(R) 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB Universal Host Controller - 27C9
* Intel(R) 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB Universal Host Controller - 27CA
* Intel(R) 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB Universal Host Controller - 27CB
* Intel(R) 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB Universal Host Controller - 27CC
* USB Root Hub
* USB Root Hub
* USB Root Hub
* USB Root Hub
* USB Root Hub


I uninstalled all items under "Other Devices" and under "USB controllers". Rebooted and everything reappeared under both with no changes.

I tried reinstalling from the Sony and Windows websites, and nothing changed.


:( I'm at an absolute loss. If anyone knows what to do, I'd appreciate any and all help!
