My laptop is a Sony VAIO SZ780N2

First Problem is that sometimes when I startup my computer it stops at the black screen in between the startup screen and the logo screen, I see the startup screen, everything darkens, and instead of the logo appearing it just remains dark until I shut down the computer. This is usually fixed when go back to last good configuration but then it happens again, seemingly randomly.

Second problem is something to do with power settings.
when I log in (from fresh start-up or otherwise) this message box appears:

When I go into power settings and go power options>change advanced power settings>VAIO power management, another error box appears:

After which the screen becomes like this:

and i am unable to change or even see the settings.

help please X.X
