Operating System Not Found

Hello,

I am trying to help a family member fix their Presario 700 Laptop using XP. When I attempt to boot up, I receive the message “Operating System Not Found”. I am able to get into the BIOS screens. It has been suggested by my research that I first check whether the hard drive is recognized. Where in the BIOS screens do I check for this? The title is PhoenixBIOS Setup Utility. I see verbiage that says:

Parallel Port is enabled
Mode: ECP/EPP
Base I/O Address: 378
DMA Channel 3

The next screen lets you choose from where to boot up from. The Hard Drive option will yield the “Operating System Not Found” message’

Are you suggesting to turn off the GUI screen for the BIOS Setup Utility and go into some native mode? If so, I don't know how not go into the GUI screens. They pop up when I press PF10 during the bootup.

if there is an option in the bios to turn off the boot screen gui it may let you see a lot more options in the bios
