OS: Windows XP Service Pack 3

Dell Inspiron 1300 Sound Problem

Hi, recently I updated my Windows XP to Service Pack 3. When I did that it caused my computer to crash and it would not boot to the logon screen, So I had to run a System fix like re-formatting the laptop but not losing data. it all worked fine except, My sound is no longer working... I have tried to install my audio drivers and everything I could find that was on my Dell Resource CD, No luck... I've looked around the internet tried everything, Nothing works. Im on the brink of Reformatting the computer clean.. But I want to save the trouble and losing data and try and fix this problem...

I checked my device manager, Everything is fine under the Sounds, Video, Games controllers section, But there is a section that says 'Other Devices' With a (!) next to it, Under it says Ethernet Controller (!) and 4 Unknown devices with (!) next to it, I tried to update the drivers for them.. No Luck.

help?
