OS: Windows Vista Home Premium

Older laptop connects much faster than newer laptop

Just as the title says. I have an older HP laptop that is about a year and a half old and doing a speed test at speakeasy.net/speedtest shows my older laptop is downloading at 16Mbps and at times even shoots up to 20Mbps and the other one is stuck at 600Kbps or so. Both computers are uploading at the same speed of 2.5Mbps. Comcast is my ISP and I'm using a Belkin G Wireless Router.

I was using WPA-2 but disabled it thinking that it may help, but no results.

Both computers are running Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit.

Both are using the same router and from the exact same distance. My newer laptop is a Medion computer with an Atheros AR5007UG Wireless Network Adapter and my older one is a Broadcom 802.11b/g WLAN

I'm wondering if perhaps it's just that one card is weaker than the other reception wise. Plugged in with the ethernet cable I'm at 30Mbps with both laptops as far as download speed goes, but it's a real inconvenience to have to keep it plugged in to do anything.

I also recently tried updating the driver for my new laptop, which didn't increase the speed at all. If any more information is needed, I'll be very glad to provide it and thanks a lot in advance for any ideas on how I can troubleshoot this further or what I can do to increase the speed.
