OS: Windows XP SP2, OpenSuse

Exclamation Acer 5102 won't load keyboard

Hi:

I have an Acer Aspire 5102:

AMD Turion X2 @ 1.8 GHz
1 GB Ram
120 GB HDD
OS: Windows XP SP2, openSuse 11.0

Since 2006 this laptop been working just fine. Yesterday I worked with it as usual for about 8hrs, then came back home turned it on, pluged in my Sony NW-HD5, which is usually recognized as an external storage device, and then after a 5min wait the screen display a crazy mess of colors and the laptop became completely unresponsive. I shut off, restart, and the display won't start and the keyboard won't respond, try again, same thing. I unplug the power cord, try again and it starts normally. So i decided it's just overheating cause it tends to gather all the dust in the inside, and that i'll clean it later. I log into Windows, blue window telling me the HDD must be checked, on you go, a file is truncated or something, must be repaired, and before I could write down its name, blue screen disappear and Windows loads normally, great!. Then i log (recklessly, i know) into my WOW account, 5 min, and suddenly the display goes black and then again became unresponsive. Same thing as above, unplug, starts normally... but my keyboard won't load, I know this because I have a BIOS password. Again shut down, restart about 3 times, starts normally, i write my password, grub, die. Since then every time I turn on, the display will prompt for my BIOS password but the keyboard won't load! I turned it apart, cleaned everything, and the same result... Any ideas?

What did I did that day:

Sign up to Usenet, download NewsLeecher, and download about 8GB of data. My HD had 20GB free. Usual trip back home, plug my Sony NW, and bang, caos.

I can't load any OS nor external boot, since the BIOS password is activated. Already tried an USB keyboard, nothing.

Please, help. Anything will be appreciated. I really need that laptop... *cry*

Best Regards

Re: Acer 5102 won't load keyboard

Have you tried removing the HDD and boot into BIOS settings only? If you can try reseating the RAM or use a good working one just for testing purposes.

Also if you have opened it up, check the keyboard cable is seated well in its socket... remove it and put it back in just to be sure.
