to burn or not to burn w/ hp dv2000

I've had my laptop for a few months and since then I've burned 3 cds..
Now when I try to burn cd's my media tells me to connect a burner and restart player.
I never dissconnected my burner and its worked before.
I've tried putting other cds and dvd's in and it wont register.
I read a couple fourms on this and couldnt find a solutions.
A guy posted his player was doing something similar, but could play dvds.
when I close the drive I see a light flash twice. When I put a cd in I hear it spin..So I checked to make sure all drives were up todate.. and I dont wont to deal with sending it in if I can fix the problem my self.

Try deleting upper/lower filters or Google CDGONE.REG. Also have you tried booting from CD/DVD drive using a linux live CD or bart PE?
