Toshiba laptop will not power up
This is a repost of a reply to an old thread on the same topic, but no one has replied to it yet, so here's a new thread.
I have a Toshiba Satellite M55-S329 that will not power up. I was using it last night and it just went dead as if the battery was exhausted. In fact, shortly before that, the low battery alarm went off and I plugged in the ac adapter before it turned off. Before it died, there was no low battery alarm. Now when I attempt to turn the computer on, I have to hold the power button for a few seconds to get the light on the power button to turn on. It stays on for about ten seconds before going out. The power supply fan does not turn on and the screen is blank the whole time. I tried taking out the battery and running on ac, same thing happened. I checked the ac adapter output with a voltmeter and it checked good. There are four lights on the front left edge of the laptop: a battery indicator, an ac power indicator, a power on indicator, and one other that I'm not sure of, it has a cylinder symbol next to it, I believe it's a disk drive indicator of some sort. The battery and ac adapter lights are responsive: if I remove either, the corresponding lights go out, so the power supply is at least partially functional. Any help would be very appreciated. |

Re: Toshiba laptop will not power up
Try to reset first. Remove battery and ac adapter then press and hold power ON button for 30 seconds at least. Put back the battery and plug back the ac adapter then power ON as normal. If that does not help, reseat the RAM modules.

Re: Toshiba laptop will not power up
You mean when you plug in ac adapter or battery or both, the LEDs for these light up when you power ON but you do not hear the fan spin nor the drives start to activate... then system shuts down completely?
If you can, try a new RAM or at least a good/working one just to rule out a bad RAM problem. Also try removing modem card and wireless card if there are any.

Re: Toshiba laptop will not power up
Yes, the battery and ac adapter indicator lights come on if either are plugged in, even if the computer is not on. When I press the power button, the front panel power light also turns on, but the fan, disk drive, and monitor do not come on, even for an instant, then the power light simply shuts off after about five seconds or so. I'll try your suggestions, thanks for your help so far.
