Acer Laptop dead, you're in for a treat.

Hi everyone, a newbie here, and while I understand a lot about computers, I'm not a windows guy for the most part.

BUT.. to do many things, you need to have a working windows machine SOMEWHERE..so here it goes.

we bought an Acer Aspire 3680 laptop new from wally world. we needed a cheap computer to basically do schoolwork and internet. it did that fine for about 9 months, and then suddenly just up and had a corrupt system file. it would no longer even boot up, it brought me to the "fix me" screen. I tried playing with it, and nothing.

In the process, it turned off, and will not turn back on. not with battery, not with wall-plug...nothing.

I have since taken out the hard drive thinking someday I'm going to get a cable and suck all the good files off that hard drive, but what I'd really like to do is get the thing working again.

I really don't understand in the beginning why I'm suddenly getting a corrupt system file...the man I paid way too much money to do basically nothing told me that it needed a new HD and a new system installed and that it would cost a crapload of money to have him do it. i said screw it. The lappy to begin with costed just over twice what he wanted to charge me to do this clean install.

So my question I guess is - has this issue been brought up before? is this something I can fix at home? I'd like to make the computer functional again..

Thanks, and feel free to ask any questions.

Ryan

Hi Ryan,

At this point, when you try to power it ON, do you see an LEDs light up and/or hear the fan spin?

nope, it does absolutely nothing whatsoever.

i have checked the power supply and it does indeed deliver the right voltage, so that's not the case.

Re: Acer Laptop dead, you're in for a treat.

Does your battery carry any charge? Is there a way for you to use a charged battery? This is just to rule out other things like the power ON switch or the DC jack connection.

If you adapter is giving out the right voltage, you can also suspect the DC jack connection. This can be ruled out if the laptop boots on battery

It could also be possible that you might have a problem with the power ON button. Have you tried other buttons as well (some laptops power ON using other buttons).

Hey...I played with it and nothing seemed to work. As odd as this may sound...I'm just going to trash the thing. I wonder if there's a market for any of the parts inside.

If you are going to get rid of the laptop try puting it on ebay and sell it for parts there is a market for laptop parts new or used.
