Laptop Won't Charge Battery \ Randomly Turns Off \ Other Laptop Broke

Hello,

I recently acquired a HP zv5000 series laptop from my friend. He claimed to have problems. There used to be a blue screen of death at the start up but I fixed that problem. I noticed however the laptop doesn't hold the charge and restore the battery life. The laptop works but you have to wiggle the wire in the back and wait for the light on the front to say there's a charge. Now I tested the wire on a laptop with the same size adapter and it worked for the other computer. Why is the back loose? I'm only good with desktops, I'm not sure how to troubleshoot laptops as well. I was wondering why the laptop adapter won't charge the battery and why it has to be a certain way to even power the laptop.

Thanks.

Second Laptop Issue...
I also own a Gateway 7000 series laptop. It has the same problem except the back metal piece inside where the adapter plugs in, broke off. I'm more curious on how much this will cost to get fixed. I've tryed everything else. The battery I bought for it has a 50% charge however since that back piece broke off, even the battery can't power the computer. Any information would be helpful.

Thanks,
Final07

Re: Laptop Won't Charge Battery \ Randomly Turns Off \ Other Laptop Broke

It sounds to me that both your connections (DC connectors) on these laptops are damaged. On most laptops these connectors are attached (solder) to the moterboard. This means depending on the damage done you may have to just have theses connectors replaced (soldered) or the MOBO maybe damaged. This requires complete dissasembly of the laptops and a special soldering gun.
