HP 530 intergated graphics chip fried
I have an HP 530 laptop, a while ago i was playing san andreas on it and got bored so I plugged in a monitor to play on two screens lol i dunno why. At the time it didn't like it, it kept flickering. I think the graphics chip fried because it has lines going through the screen and weird colour patches since.
I was wondering what my options are, It was a cheapy laptop so i very much doubt it has a graphics card slot. and i don't want to get a new motherboard because there are pratically the same price as the laptop its self. Is there like a external graphics card about or anything? and is the graphics card deff fried? thanks Ben |

It seems to me you tried with an external monitor.. do the lines show in both the LCD and the external monitor?

Re: HP 530 intergated graphics chip fried
Yep it sure looks like a video chip problem. But before we jump into that conclusion, try uninstalling the video drivers (see Device Manager). Also uninstall any or all video driver related program in ADD/REMOVE. Reboot. This should give you the basic screen resolution, not good to look at but may give you some clue. Install or update chipset drivers if there's any (see HP website for your model) then install the video drivers.
Also try booting with another operating system from a live CD (i.e. Knoppix or Ubuntu or similar). Observe if the symptoms are the same.

Re: HP 530 intergated graphics chip fried
So you tried Knoppix or Ubuntu and it gave you a blue screen? Did you download the ISO file and used Nero or ImgBurn or similar to burn the image into a blank CD? If you just copied the file directly to the blank CD, you would not be able to boot from it... may be that is why you still get the blue screen. I may be mistaken but booting from a linux live CD would have a different symptom or error at least... not BSOD.
