Disable Gateway Multifunction Keys
Good Morning,
Anyone know how to disable the multifunction keypad at the top of my GW M305crv? The internet button is stuck and keeps opening default browser. Thx in advance B20 GW M305crv XP sp2 |

Re: Disable Gateway Multifunction Keys
Try the Multi-function Keyboard utility in Control Panel.

Re: Disable Gateway Multifunction Keys
Ok the only utilities in the CP that I know pertain to the KB are "Accessibility" and "Keyboard". Neither one has access to the multifunction keys.
I remember on an old IBM (98SE) I had to modify something on the config.sys (I think) to make the "Easy Access" keys inop. I hope I've missed something. Appreciate your help. B20 Last edited by Electricb20; 12-10-2008 at 01:41 PM. Reason: added something |

Re: Disable Gateway Multifunction Keys
Do you have Launch Manager? May be you can reprogram it from there.

Nope.. it is a util from Gateway for their notebooks. You can try a search in Gateway website on the topic.

Re: Disable Gateway Multifunction Keys
Merry Christmas,
Just came back into the Us from Bz Trip. Looked for both Multi Func Keybd MGR and Launch MGR. Neither Util avail for my M305crv. Found LM for another model but had no effect on prob. Couldn't find MF Key Mgr at all. Would really like to find the exe that enables those multi function keys so I could use MSCONFIG to turn that off and work around that way. Ho Ho Ho Ho Ho |

Re: Disable Gateway Multifunction Keys
Try opening KEYBOARD properties in Control Panel. How many and what are the tabs that you see (General, Buttons, etc.)?

Re: Disable Gateway Multifunction Keys
Thanks for responding. The tabs are "Speed" and " Hardware" On the speed tab are repeat sliders for character and cursors, also a box where you can hold down a key to observe the set repeat rate. None of the multifunction keys will show up in this box when pressed.
The hardware tab brings up the same property box as the keyboard icon from the "Hardware manager" with still no links or references to the multifunction keys. |

Re: Disable Gateway Multifunction Keys
The other way I can see that would help is to open it up and remove the connections for that button.

Re: Disable Gateway Multifunction Keys
HAPPY NEW YEAR........ YIPPEEE!
Yep, already looked at that. Small access panel at the top by the hinges. I can replace the actual circuit board for $50 but since I don't use the damn buttons, I was hoping to just turn them off by deactivating a prog somewhere. Thank you again for responding. |
