Slow Amilo M66450G

My Amilo has never been fast, but now takes anything up to 2 minutes just to load a programme. Have checked for Malware/Viruses but negative. Can anyone recommend a software diagnostics programme which may help find the root of the problem?
I looked at RegCure and Registry Easy which both said I had over 800 problems but I am wary of them (they look very very similar). I would purchase however if anyone recommended either or another programme.

Pentium M 1000.04
512 mb Ram

Re: Slow Amilo M66450G

Have you considered increasing your RAM (should your system support it) to maximum?

Re: Slow Amilo M66450G

Hi triggerFinger.
Have considered it but really want to know if there's an underlying problem first. RAM is cheap so no problem (although I've never opened a laptop before).
Thanks for the reply.
Incidentally, found masses of complaints regarding regCure ..http://www.complaintsboard.com/complaints/4155/page/1

Re: Slow Amilo M66450G

Hi froggie,

If it is performance improvement I really want, I would start it fresh (new installed operating system). But of course I have to consider the hardware like the RAM and the speed of the hard drive as well (assuming I cannot do anything with the CPU).

As for RegCure, I cannot say as I do not use it nor know anyone who does. On the other hand I suggest you try the steps here:

Is your PC running slow...?

Re: Slow Amilo M66450G

Thank you again TriggerFinger. I have re-installed the system (virtually no change) and have ordered 2 gig RAM (Crucial). I cannot find however how to install it! Notebooks/laptops are a completely alien subject to me so I wonder if you can give me a guide? I have tried 'Googling' but the M6450G' seems to be a rarely used beast.

Re: Slow Amilo M6450G

Most laptops have the RAM bays at the bottom part. You may need to unscrew a cover to have access to it. Also you can get the manual here:

Re: Slow Amilo M66450G

Thanks t\TriggerFinger. Found one RAM slot (at bottom). Understand the other is under the keyboard. Unfortunately FS doesn't show how to access it but will keep trying. Thanks again
