Re: Video Driver for VAIO VGN S170B
OK,
Can I get another screenshot of the Device Manager. I want to see if the Chipset Driver installed correctly. Again have All the + open. Bill |

Re: Video Driver for VAIO VGN S170B
Hi,
That is what I was afraid of. I think your install is corrupted. It maybe due to the install or you trying to find the drivers. I do not know why, but the Chipset driver has issues and is needed to install the Video. What is the error code you get for the error under System Devices (SM Bus Controller)? We can try to clean this up, but I think the best action is to do a reinstall of XP SP2 (NOT SP3) and get the drivers working correctly. Whether we do a reinstall or repair be sure you backup your data. I would prefer a reinstall (I know that will work), but it is up to you. Bill Last edited by BCCOMP; 12-15-2008 at 08:37 PM. |

Re: Video Driver for VAIO VGN S170B
This is a new install, I had the problem before and when nothing worked...I reinstalled windows XP sp1 or 2 and got the rest from Windows update.
I could try it again if you like. |

Re: Video Driver for VAIO VGN S170B
I would try it again.
I do not know if it is a Mobo issue or not. But this time: Install XP SP2 ONLY (Not SP3 yet). Do not us MS Updates to install anything but SP2 updates. Go here and install the CHIPSET Driver first: http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu...l?mdl=VGNS170B It is under Motherboard. When this is done post a screenshot (again with the + opened). This will tell me if the CHIPSET installed correctly. We can then proceed with the other drivers. Thanks, Bill |

Re: Video Driver for VAIO VGN S170B
Ok,
From the screenshot it looks like the chipset installed correctly You may now proceed with the rest of your drivers. Install the drivers I gave you in post #17 if you have not done so already. (I have corrected the WLAN driver for you). Check the Device Manager again for any errors. If you have an error post it to the thread. Thanks, Bill |

Re: Video Driver for VAIO VGN S170B
Hi PaddyN
In some cases I would recommend the omega drivers, but in this case the OP's Laptop comes with XP. He should have no issues with the ATI driver installing correctly now that he has the chipset driver installed without issues. Thanks for your suggestion. Bill |

Re: Video Driver for VAIO VGN S170B
Hi,
I do not understand. What do you mean you had problems with the downloads? Your screenshot does not show me any errors, but it is not the whole Device Manager. Can you post what issues you are having and supply me the errors of the Device Manager or a full screenshot? Bill |

Re: Video Driver for VAIO VGN S170B
What I mean is...out of the eight links on post #17, only four downloaded.
The rest of them had a message the reads 'This download or driver is not meant for this computer' I still have the problem I originally started with. The scree size is half it should be, and the resolution option only gives me two choices. Last edited by MenzinaX; 12-18-2008 at 09:46 PM. |
