Keypad problems

My friend has a Toshiba Satillite A70 win xp, and he touched his keypad with static electricity. When he did the computer shut down and rebooted. After that part of the keypad refused to work, however we tested the keypad on another toshiba laptop and the keypad worked. I even reinstalled windows xp/delete from manager/messed with languages, but i cant seem to fix the problem. The keys dont work or display other keys. Could it be that theres a problem with the motherboard? The USB port keyboard works.

Re: Keypad problems

You said he was able to test the keypad on another Toshiba? If so, why not test that 'other' Toshiba laptop's touchpad on your friends laptop... (swap it for testing purposes).

Re: Keypad problems

both mouse touch pads work, just one keyboard pad is having problems. And i tested that keyboard pad on another toshiba laptop, and it works. How ever when i keep trying or put in a new Keyboard pad inside the faulty toshiba. The results are the same, the keys are all fubard.

PS: yes i tested both keyboard pads and swaped them, yes they both work. However on 1 toshiba the keys dont want to co-operate( even with a new keyboard pad). Im thinking the pad circutry is messed up.

Re: Keypad problems

Seems like a motherboard problem to me. I am curious what keys are you saying that are not functioning?

Re: Keypad problems

keys are 7 9 0 u i o p , . j k l ; m . delete ( up arrow ) ( right arrow )

i even tried to fix the keys threw registry, but they seem to steal other key codes. Like U for example when press does (tuio=-)

Re: Keypad problems

If you have swapped parts and results are the same, most likely it's the motherboard already. Before making it an expensive door stop, try cleaning the connectors on the motherboard side. There could be something lodged inside (of course this is a long shot).
