DVD Tray pops open
I have a Toshiba Satellite M40X, running Windows XP.
Within the last week, the DVD/CD tray will not stay closed. If I push it closed, it pops open after about 5 seconds. As well, the CD/DVD LED is always flashing when the tray is open. When I push it closed, the LED stops flashing, but after the 5 seconds - pops open and flashing LED again. Any suggestions |

Re: DVD Tray pops open
Get a can of spray lithium grease from a auto supply store. put the extended plastic nozzle on the can. shake the can. spray one shot to the back of each side of the tray. open and close several times. make sure you wipe off any that might have got on the tray. this will lubricate the plastic gears that might be causing the problem. have done this before.

Re: DVD Tray pops open
Sorry, seems it's more than needing lube. Now the CD/DVD unit won't play anything, AND even locks up the computer when it tries.
I removed the CD/DVD unit and the computer works fine again. I uninstalled the CD/DVD driver and, so long as I do not plug the CD/DVD unit in again, the rest of the computer works OK. Its a Panasonic UJ-840, and I seem to read about a lot of problems with this unit, made May 2005. Maybe it's time for a new one. |
