I've got a problem with my Satellite Pro 6000, which I got second hand and isn't under any warranty whatsoever. Right now, I'm simply trying to boot it up.
-The monitor won't turn on -The hard drive is completely inactive (or the little light won't turn on) -The power is on, but the only evidence of this is the light, and the heat ommitting from the PC. In the rare occasion that my laptop boots up properly, everything works perfectly. well... up until the computer does this thing... I don't know really how to describe it. The computer completely stops working, and the screen is just blurring a bunch of colors, like a transition for a slideshow or something. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this? Preferrably a solution that costs no money whatsoever? |

Re: Toshiba Satellite Pro 6000 I don't know what's going on!!
Hi TylerSE,
I cannot say if this would involve NO MONEY at all but start with removing the HDD and boot from your CD/DVD drive using an XP installation CD or any bootable CD. If it boots up fine with no symptoms you described then you can say it is an HDD related failure. Assuming this is the cause, you can test the HDD for hardware errors. About the heat, since you bought it second hand... then it would be safe to assume that previous owner may have opened it up and may be have done some fixing. You can try to open it up and check the insides like the thermal compound or if the fan is running...etc. As for the screen with bunch of colors... usually a symptom of a bad video card or motherboard or LCD. Either way, they may need replacement... of course would entail some additional $$$.
