Dell insp 1501 won't hibernate or sleep

My dell insp 1501 will not hibernate when I close the lid or go to the start shut down hibernate. I have checked all the settings I know about, but I am computer illiterate and can't figure this out.

So what exactly happens? Does it freeze the system up, or it just stays in the current screen as if nothing has happened?

It will go to a blank screen like it is in hibernate but then won't do anything.

Re: Dell insp 1501 won't hibernate or sleep

If I close the lid, wait a bit, then open the lid and touch any key it just has a blank screen. The screen seems to be back lit a little. It just won't come out of hibernate.

Re: Dell insp 1501 won't hibernate or sleep

So you have it go into hibernate but pressing ANY key would not wake it up... is that it?

Do you see any of the FUNCTION keys (F-keys) that has symbol of a half moon? If you do, try pressing Fn + F(whatever that key is) instead of just 'ANY' key to bring it back from hibernate.

Re: Dell insp 1501 won't hibernate or sleep

I don't see a half moon, but the Esc says stand by and the F1 says Hibernate.

Assuming it is F1, try pressing F1 or the power ON button.

So I tried the Fn key with Hibernate and it did the same thing. The screen goes dark and I can't get it to come out of it. The only way out is to shut down using the power button, which I know is bad.

Re: Dell insp 1501 won't hibernate or sleep

Have you tried pressing power button once (do not press and hold.. just press once) to exit from HIBERNATE?

Also check ADVANCED tab in Power Option Properties for the settings. Make sure you have DELL QUICKSET installed (see DELL website for updated version).
