Dell XPS 1330 Boot up issues & more

A few days ago I turned of my laptop and noticed it was acting funky then the screen turned all pixel like then shut off. I've tried reformatting the CPU back to factory condition, but it didnt work; And I can't even get to the log in screen. Plus my battery isn't charging at all its always at 0 power and i have to have it plugged in to get any power at all. Can i get some help with these problems please!!

So what happens exactly right after you power ON? Anything you see on the screen? Have you tried with an external monitor?

Re: Dell XPS 1330 Boot up issues & more

What happens right after I power on: IT brings up the load screen where it says DELL in big blue letters and it is also the time where I can strike F2 and F12 as it shows in the top right corner of the screen, then it states that it cannot identify my power adapter and that the battery may not charge I hit F1 to continue. The next screen is Windows Error recovery it gives me 2 options to repair the computer (which doesnt work it states Problem signature 02: 6.0.6000.16386.6.0.6000.16386 Problem signature 03: 6 Problem signature 04: 524296 and Problem signature 10: 1168) and to start windows normal
Anything I see on the screen?: Yes if i hit start windows normally it will bring a pitch black screen that will show a few pixels of a different colors in small lines or it shows a bunch of lines that look like this:
__ __
__ __
__ __
__
__
Also sometimes it does start up but after 10 minutes after logging in the screen goes into a giant blur of colors distorting everything and freezing the computer, it restarts a few minutes after that.

External monitor doesnt turn on/work either.

Re: Dell XPS 1330 Boot up issues & more

I just noticed that this seems to be an unresolved problem with DELL. Is your adapter 90W (see label of AC adapter)? I have seen several threads here that has the same exact problem.

About the distorted screen, I cannot say if this is related to the adapter. I suggest you test it with another operating system (i.e. linux live CD) and see if it behaves the same (screen distortion present).

Yes it is a 90W, how do I get an adapter that works? Should I send mine in and get a new one? And how exactly would I test it on another operating system, not sure what exactly caused the problem. Oh and btw it beeps just once when ever it boots up not sure if that means something

Re: Dell XPS 1330 Boot up issues & more

For the adapter... if my memory serves me right, the issues are from the 65W adapters and not from 90W. I am not so sure if this is still applicable for XPS 1330. Btw, is there anything on the label that says about the release/version of the adapter?

I suggest you contact DELL and tell them about this problem. Best if you still have warranty.

For the distorted screen... download Knoppix or Ubuntu (Google download sites). Download the ISO files and burn the image into a blank CD or DVD using NERO or IMGBURN (freeware) or similar. Pop that CD or DVD media in your CD/DVD drive and boot from it. You may need to change boot order in BIOS settings to make that possible.
