Open your Sound Recorder (XP) Start Menu > All Programs > Accessories > Entertainment > Sound Recorder.
Then go into Edit > Audio Properties then click Volume > Tick, 'Select' if it's not already and make sure the volume is turned up. Then go back to the recorder, hit record then play it back. If that doesn't work you might want to try with an external Mic |

You mean your microphone is not working? Try reinstalling audio drivers.
