[SOLVED] New laptop with vista doesnt recognise ethernet connection
Hello
I have just bought my niece a laptop for her xmas, when I plug my ethernet cable into the back of it, it does not do anything, recognise that theres a cable plugged in or anything. I have XP on my home pc and vista is on the laptop but is new to me but I had a look in control panel/modems and it wasnt there. Do i need to install the drivers for my modem? I want to set it up for her and need connection to update stuff. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cam. Last edited by cammy22; 11-26-2008 at 09:06 AM. |

Re: New laptop with vista doesnt recognise ethernet connection
(Sorry for the delay I have been ill for a week!)
Ok, After I entered all my details (ip, subnet, default gateway etc) I still have no internet connection. In Network Sharing Centre I have (icons) 'MY-PC' connected to 'Unidentified Network' then a connection with a red X going to 'Internet' but the globe is grayed out. Acces - Local Connection - Local Area Connection When I try to connect I get : connection through WAN miniport (PPPOE) ERROR 815, cannot connect, remote server is not responding. This could be caused by an invalid value for the service name. Any Ideas? Thanks again. |

Re: New laptop with vista doesnt recognise ethernet connection
Jeez i didnt realise how important it was to reset(turn off) my modem each time i plug it into a new computer. I think that solved it. After I got it working on the laptop i had the same prob on my pc thereafter, again resetting the modem worked.
Thanks for all your help. Cammy. |
