[SOLVED] Emachines M6805 Laptop

My wife bought a used Emachines M6805 laptop and after connecting to the internet noticed a lot of adware and possible viruses I'm guessing due to old file sharing programs "limewire" "kazza" I suggested formatting the hard drive and installing our copy of xp home to start with a clean slate. And instead I have opened a big can of worms it seems. After deleting the partision on the harddrive and reformatting and installing windows xp home I could not get back online. Now I have 3 yellow question marks under "other devices" in devices manager. All 3 devices need drivers and I have looked on the internet for hours and call emachines with no luck or help. The devices are Network controller Pci simple communications controller Video controller(vga compatible). I have seen a lot of site's claiming to be able to update all my drivers... after a free scan, but not being able to get online to do the scan with the machine that needs the drivers I'm stumped as to what I should do or try next. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated

Re: Emachines M6805 Laptop

Hi,
Welcome to TSF
Your Network Controller can be found here:
http://www.emachines.com/support/pro...es&model=M6805
under downloads. This is your LAN driver.

The M6807 (just scroll through model) appears to have the same specs as yours.
You could download any additional drivers from there. The only thing I am not sure about is which wireless network card you have (it list two)

I would advice to install the Chipset driver first.
Bill

Re: Emachines M6805 Laptop

Thank you very much. I was able to get rid of 2 of my yellow question marks in other devices, network controller, and pci simple commmunications controller. I didnt see any drivers for, or related to my video controller(vga compatible). If you have any idea's on where i might get that last driver i would love to hear about it. Other than that i thank you again for taking time to read my post and give me the right answer the first time"switch to m6807" Thanks for the time and effort BCCOMP.

Re: Emachines M6805 Laptop

Hi,
According to the Specs you have an ATI® Mobility RADEON™ 9600 with 64MB Video RAM.
I could not find a driver for it on the Emachines website, but have located the driver on ATI website:
http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_ca...xp/mobility-xp
Seeing this is a laptop ATI wants to validate the card you have for compatibility prior to installing the driver. Let it and see if it will install.
Let me know how you make out.
Thanks,
Bill
